What are kidney stones?
Kidney stones are made up of different substances like calcium and minerals that are usually flushed out of the body through urine.
The kidney stones are formed when there is excess amount of oxalate(made from vitamin C) in the body.
Small kidney stones up to 6 cm are not a problem. It is the large kidney stone that causes pain and obstruction.
Stones upto 6 cms usually flush out with the normal process.
Most of us have kidney stones made in the kidney. But under normal circumstances they are expelled out of the body. The problem occurs when due to improper metabolism and/or less water intake these materials are not completely flushed out.
If the kidney is not cleansed over a period of time the size of these stones may increase making it difficult for the stones to come out through the normal urine process.
Symptoms
- Severe painbecause the stone puts pressure inside the kidney and blocks the water flow, it can cause severe unbearable pain. The pain can run for short or long durations.
- Symptoms in the Urine ——
Because these stones have a rough surface they can cause wounds inside the system which may bring blood in the urine
- It also causes painful and frequent urination because the body is not able to expel out urine properly at one go.
- Other symptoms Chills, fever, nausea may occur as a body’s immunity response.
** Causes **
Improper lifestyle
Improper diet is one of the reasons of kidney stones. More salts and urine increases the workload of kidney and it is not able to flush out the toxins properly.
Excessive protein intake increases the amount of calcium in the body. The unutilized portion of these nutrients causes pressure on the flushing out process.
Lack of exercise: – a sedentary life leads to improper metabolism. Slow metabolism leads to more calcium in the blood stream which increases the chances of stone formation in the kidney.
Excess of oxalate
Oxalate is a substance that is formed inside the body from vitamin C. Hence, excess intake of vitamin C especially in the form of dietary supplements can cause kidney stones to occur as it increases the oxalate amounts in the body.
Less water intake is one the primary causes of formation of kidney stones. Less water intake makes it difficult for the kidney to flush out the minerals properly. Hence, it becomes one of the major reasons for formation of kidney stones.
